koosnet 0 Posted May 26, 2003 Sam, I think with some cropping and framing this will be a nice picture. Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted May 27, 2003 Here's another cropped version for you to consider. I've more or less adopted Koos' idea for the frame around this image. My preference is for the landscape format, as it allows me to appreciate the wide open spaces of the Hoge Veluwe. It is interesting to note that Holland has the highest population density in the western world, with (at some stage) about 424 people per square kilometre. All the more important to emphasize the few places that are left in your country that have some open space left. The overcrowding is one of the hardest things for me to deal with, when I visit Holland. If you desire some room to move, Australia is the place to be! Link to comment
sambal 0 Posted May 27, 2003 Koos & Peter, many many thanks for all the great trouble taken to enhance my photograph of a lone fir tree in Hollands artificial desert under that ashen grey sky you never see in tourist industrys posters - although its the cause why the country is so lush & green! Im afraid I now have to admit I have no affinity to frames. People often wondered why I have put paintings/photos without frames on my walls. The reason is they disturb me mightily. But apparently Im the exception to the rule. Ive read in photo.nets discussion forums framed pictures are higher rated than non-framed photos. As Im not terribly convinced about the usefulness of the rating system Im sticking to my own bad taste just as it pleases me ;-)) Yes Peter, its really amazing that in one of the most densely populated countries on this globe, one still finds areas without a human soul/body in sight. However, you do not find yourself there in Nature. Even most of what is considered to be nature is man-made in Holland. That sand drift has been re-created recently. The purpose was to reshape the landscape back into a form of ecological disaster caused by farming methods used 150 or so years ago. Nostalgia galore and a real luxury! An unframed photo of the asphalt cycle path now running thru this recreation of bad ol times is added here for your amazement & enjoyment. Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted May 28, 2003 Thanks for that very informative response, Sam. Receiving some sort of acknowledgement to comments left around the place, makes it all the more worthwhile. Very much appreciated! Link to comment
nowhereman nl 0 Posted August 22, 2003 I'm still amazed what a frame and a little cropping can do to a photo. Did you take this one at the Veluwe? Link to comment
sambal 0 Posted August 25, 2003 Richard, I took this photo at the Hoge Veluwe National Park where sand drifts are being stimulated. With regard to frames, I do not like them..... Thanks for your comment. Link to comment
