mark_kay 0 Posted May 24, 2003 There was a re-enactment of the civil war in Fremont CA. He was walking around and i got a few shots of him posing with my son. I zoomed in on his face for one of the shots.. Looks the part!! Link to comment

mark_kay 0 Posted May 25, 2003 This was a participant in the civil war re-enactment. He seemed just perfect for the role. Link to comment
walter_strong3 0 Posted May 25, 2003 The crop is a bit tight on the hat but just the same, one could see this guy out there with his musket battl'n the Yankees! Link to comment
dean paul mcclelland 0 Posted May 25, 2003 THis man reminds me of Gandalf the Grey. You've captured quite the character. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted May 25, 2003 Good portrait. You've kept good lighting and detail in the top part of the face where normally the brim of the hat would cast a shadow Link to comment
americo_vespucci 0 Posted May 25, 2003 Wonderful portrait, Mark! And I´m sure in sepia it would be a perfect Gandalf!! Link to comment
jimmcnitt 0 Posted May 25, 2003 Great subject and great portrait. Getting soft, even lighting under the brim of that hat in California sunlight could not have been easy. If he really were a Civil War vet that would make him, ummm, pretty close to 160 -- that might be even older than Gandolf. Link to comment
zeng_arial 0 Posted May 26, 2003 I like the contract of the background. I like the shadow under the hat which goes with the white beard perfectly. Awesome! Link to comment
william_p._ward 0 Posted May 27, 2003 I am curious if a B&W/Sepia version might serve giving the image a feeling of age that fit the subject matter. Outside of that curiousity, the man expression is caught well, he seems intent on something. The water on the lower right seems to blend a little. Link to comment
roberto4 0 Posted May 27, 2003 great portrait. i think it would be a good template for BW--Sepia old style picture!best regards robertO Link to comment
peter_steeper 0 Posted May 27, 2003 The lighting on his face balances beatifully with the his hat and shirt. How did you get the nice lighting? Link to comment
mark_kay 0 Posted May 27, 2003 Thanks for all the comments.I got some luck with the lighting where he was standing and the fact the sun started to come through the clouds at theright moment Link to comment
dman 0 Posted June 5, 2003 I would have liked to see some light pulled away from the subjects left side. More ratio would have been nice. But still good..!! Link to comment
jody 0 Posted June 14, 2003 wow! striking. love the guy- love the detail. lighting is from a tough angle, but it works Link to comment
