What I like here is first of all the low point of view that creates an interesting image, horizon line well seen separate blue sky and frozen water,I like your result here,my best regards.

Thank you.I knew about the tilted horizon and somehow I posted before fixing.

Thank you for the nice comment. The image would have been better with the horizon line on the level as noted by Richard and Raymond.

Hello Laurent

Wow, smelt fishing in this cold. We used to fish for these for bait in the fall. Great perspective and must have been cold just being there. As I recall smelt are pretty small, is it worth it to fish? Nice one anyway. FS

Here smelt fishing is through the ice and the colder, the better because the thickness of the ice dictates the start of the activity. The shacks are usually set in areas of shallow waters and fishing is through a hole in the ice with a small harpoon. In deeper waters, nets are set in a long slot in the ice which then freezes over and  fishing is done by pulling the net under the ice through holes which are kept opened at either end.Travel on the ice is by  snowmobiles,ATVs and when the ice gets thicker,by pickup trucks:it takes good ice management especially when comes time to risk the use of the truck or car.And yes, smelt is small but delicious. In good seasons,it is part income for some.Enough said!Thank you for the comment and the interest.

Hi Laurent Very nice image Like how the two huts add scale to the scene. But what really amazes me is the ice formation, have never seen anything quite like it.For example where the hut ice meets the shore, there appears to be a round formation of ice or is this just the top sheet of ice going to a lower level. It is very interesting how a new ridge of ice is forming in the foreground. What I really find exceptional is pure white ice, Lordy, up here in Southern Ontario, it would be half black from pollution..Anyway, a very nice image Congratulations. Best Regards-Ross

You caught me off guard on this one as I am not yet back in my winter mode.Yes,we have clean ice and a lot of it;on the one hand,it stays clean as this area is off the main traffic stream and remains relatively polution free.On the other hand, this is a salt water harbour subjected to tide variations which explains the fresh glazing from the overflow. The ice cakes on the right are sitting atop a rock finger and were created by storm driven tide action.Glad you like this and I thank you for browsing my images and for your always kind comment.
