Hi Gillie

What a regal looking fellow! Lovely lighting and is much nicer viewed larger.

Loved it.

This is a lovely capture. I like your use of DoF to isolate the subject, yet include an awareness of his habitat. Yes, the sun spot illuminates him well in a rather dark surround. Nice definition to his plumage........ well done.

Regards.

Thank you Grayham; there are some birds that really stand out well against a dark, out of focus background and the heron is one of them.  Gillie

Isn't it great when they pose themselves for you in good light? And you've got the right lens on, and get them focused and the exposure made before they move on? Fine work, Gillie!

You're right Tony; here the problem is usually the light, as they do pose quite well as a rule.  Thanks for taking a look.
