What a lovely shot Dominic!!  Those vibrant orange petals are so beautiful. Great detail and colour. Do you know what this plant is? It appeaars to be some form of 'succulent' . Lovely shot !

Warmest regards, Gail

Gail, these are known locally as "ice" plants, hence the title.  I'll find it's Latin name the next time I visit.  Aloha.

Hi Dominic,

While plants look nice  "soft", technically , I would never stop down any lens to F/16 for a shot like this.

The value of the Canon 100mm F/2.8 macro is reduced to that of a inexpensive 100mm lens that does well at F/8 or F/11.

I have the full line of Canon and Nikkor lens, as well as all the cameras in each line up. I have  fully studied them in the optical lab.

This shot would retain its DOF and have improved image characteristics at F/5.6 by simply moving back from the existing scene. Then little compromise would be made due to any excessive f-stop employed.

Best Regards,  Mike
