Christal,

Beautiful b/w scene with wonderful composition & lighting.  Glad to see you posting again.  Thanks for sharing.  Happy New Year!!! Take care, Patsy

I always like these photo's but they never get great marks in pn.  In part that may be because it lacks a subject although in my opinion it doesn't need one starring you in the face.  I'd be tempted to burn in the edges, making the path more luminous.  K.C.

It looks like title says, peaceful winter scene,I see that you have just few snow as in most of world temperate climates, usualy in my area was minimum half meter of snow this time and now just like in your image,is for sure that is a change and this is not at all good.My best regards in 2012 .

Christal...  I was going to comment that we had more snow on our trip to NC than you had, and then noticed the date.   You know this is a setting that Martha and I would not be able to resist.  A path leading off around the curve with a beckoning gate no less.  The wanderlust that is in a hiker cannot help but be intrigued and want to explore.  Very well done in b/w too... Thanks for your comments on this.  I realize it's nothing out of the ordinary, but I was preparing it for the monthly competition with my photo club.  The theme is 'Spirit and Place'.......hence the title.  And frankly, I do 'step outside of myself' when I walk here, so I'm not stretching the theme too much.  :-)

Katie, I think you're right about the vignetting.  I'll give it a try.....thanks!

Radu, this was actually taken last winter.  We've only had 2 small snowfalls so far this year, which is really unusual.  The last few winters we've been digging out of snow about now.  I'm not complaining.  Although the snow is so beautiful......I do hope we get a little this winter.

Mike, as you're always saying.....'Come on up'.....this is only 5 minutes from my house!  :-)   There are actually some lovely places in Indiana, many of which we've never seen even though we've lived here all our lives.  So Norm and I are challenging ourselves to 'snoop' around our state and visit some of the interesting-sounding places.  Thanks for stopping in!

A super shot Christal. The snow covered road leads you right through the scene. I like the light and the shadows it casts on the road and on the trees themselves. I see a lovely abstract pattern in the foreground on the left side. Perhaps for a 2nd shot you get down low and make that your 'foreground interest'.  A six from me.

Love the footprints in the snowy path and, looks like, wheel marks... .  A captured texture of the snow, so I imagine hearing the sound it would make when walking -- originally after the sun baked it a crackle and when it warmed a bit of squish.  The light warms up the cold scene.  It's lovely, a path I would like to travel
