Most Charming! I think a bit more contrast would be in order. I really, really like Silver Efex Pro 2 for black and white conversion. Its a plugin for p shop and for Lightroom that does a fantastic job of mimicing old style film. Almost a stand alone program in its depth but a plugin none the less. As an instructor you can get it for 1/2 price which would be about $100 U.S.D. Still not cheap but worth every penny.  A good book on b/w conversion with p shops built in tool is 'Advanced Digital Black & White Photography' by John Beardsworth. I use various things in it in my class.
