It must be one of the oldest and instinctive things that humans do, catch fish! I don't do much fishing now, as the camera has taken over from the fishing rod, but I can empathise with the relationship between man and fish, or man and fishing for that matter. I was always fascinated by the things beneath the murky depths I couldn't see, and there was a time when I was driven  by that curiosity to catch fish. I very seldom eat what I caught, I carefully returned the fish to the water with much reverence and respect for thier very existence. I would after studying the colours and light reflected on thier scales, watch them swim away with a sense of joy,  such beautiful creatures. But the instinct born inside most men and women for that matter  comes from generations of people that fish for survival and is literally a way of life. I suspect that your image is the stark reality of this, very well documented and communicated.

Best Regards

Alf

Alf, your very detailed and personal response to the image really pleased me. I love your description your experiences with fishing. Thanks for taking the time to engage so thoroughly. Cheers

Bettie, It is very often a cruel destiny for animals. The consumption of food by human beings seems unlimited. In the above micro environment it can be harmless, but on a lager scale it can be a disaster. Greetings Marco

Marco, I appreciate your comment. Yes, this paradox of attempting to live harmoniously with and in nature, and simultaneously the need to kill to live. But, I suppose, that's life.... I mean, or should I say, death ... Best wishes to you too. :-)

Bettie, It will be the death of many animals, but in the future people can make meat on a synthetic way. The future is unpredictable. We are however creative in surviving. I am not pessimistic. For animals it is different. Greetings Marco
