marc_dilley1 0 Posted December 28, 2011 Being unhappy with this image, I recently returned to the Raw files and completely reworked them and the masks. Even the crop is now more generous. Link to comment
richard_john_edwards 0 Posted December 29, 2011 Mark, find this image a little busy, the mountains and clouds are great but for me the clutter of the defection competing with the tree stumps leave me untested in this image. I am reluctant to suggest a crop but for me that might work focusing on the mountains clouds and colour of the water just above the reflection line. Best regards RJE Link to comment
richard_john_edwards 0 Posted December 29, 2011 Ignore my previous comment, the more I have looked at this image the more i am enjoying it (am I allowed to change my mind? ) Cheers Richard Link to comment
marc_dilley1 0 Posted December 29, 2011 Richard: The new crop, which encompasses ridges that I had not included in the former version, I agonized over and finally decided that they contributed to the sense of scale that was my primary reason for shooting these towering faces from this far side of Colchuck Lake. Every other photo of these peaks that I know of, casual or professional, lost the sense of scale by cropping too tightly and providing little of no foreground. Hence the side ridges and the FG driftwood. That the "X" pattern exists with the driftwood and snow was somewhat serendipitous. I was aware of it, but certainly did not approach the comp seeking it. So, yeah, since I changed my mind, I give you permission to change yours! Link to comment

marc_dilley1 0 Posted December 31, 2011 Douglas Colchuck Lake is an easy day hike, and even the upper Enchantments via Aasgard Pass (visible to the left of Dragontail Peak) is a reasonable day adventure. But unfortunately you need a permit to camp. In the old days you could go anywhere you pleased but now, for better or worse, you must submit your name into the lottery system with the Forest Service.
