photographypanoptikon 0 Posted January 22, 2012 This is the second photo I've put in my portfolio that was taken within the ancient church-complex in Lalibella, Ethiopia. There were only a few shots ot be taken where modern protective roofs or scaffolding didn't spoil the feel of the picture. These churches are all monolithic (i.e carved from single boulders, not constructed) and Ethiopia often times claims the site as the eighth wonder of the world. Most of the photos of these areas that I have seen have no people in frame. The only reason that my shot has some is that the townspeople were handwashing every inch of every church in preparation for festivities. I feel that this picture gives a sense of the enormity both of the building itself and of the devotion required to climb on those rickety ladders and wash it all. Feedback would be much appreciated. The picture was shot on a Canon EOS 3000 with Ektachrome E100 VS slide film. Link to comment

jlineen 5,634 Posted January 31, 2012 Great Shot of a fascinating location. The composition is dynamic and the people add a sense of scale and drama Link to comment
carlwakefield 0 Posted May 16, 2012 Super shot, It very interesting how they secure the ladder with the ropes and the simple but effective construction. Great that you got a shot of the church with the people it makes it so much better. Thanks for the info and great shot with super colour and tones. Regards Carl Link to comment
