Tore...  Shhhh, don't tell...  The eyes are perfect and the rest follow.  Excellent (I would clone the small piece of bracelet at the bottom though.)... Mike

Beautiful model and pose . Perfect skin tones and lighting . I'm guessing that you used a softbox front and high , with a reflector low down and nearer to your model . The plain white background works well . Excellent top quality image ! Bill ( 7 )

Superb portraiture, the perfect lighting that only great expertise can accomplish. It's more than that however, it's contact with the viewer that brings out personality and character, that is what portraiture is all about after all. Excellent once again my friend, bravo.

Nicely done.  So let me throw these at you to see what reactions I get.  The hand comes from nowhere, its not attached to anything and there are two catch lights in the eyes.  OK to break these rules?

IMHO, both bother me a little, the hand more than the catch lights.  Still a great image.  I am anxious to see other comments.  Best regards my friend...Brent

Thank you all for your comments and feedback, I appreciate it a lot.

Brent, the double catch light a a broken "rule" but if you look to some high end commercial shoot you can see that a lot of commercial still have it even in expensive campaigns. So I have stooped worry about that.

zoom in this banner and check the eyes.

About the cut arm, sometimes its ok with imaginary lines look at this shoots of iman for DeBeers jewelery

Or you can goggle Adriana lima and find allot of pictures with this "setup"

My shoot is a part of a serie to a local makeup artist I promised to help, the idea is to shoot a serie of shoot where the makeup is important so there is no clothing in the pictures for highlighting the makeup as the only major color in the shoots.
To get a variation and don't make a full serie of semi "glamor" shoots (some is more glamor styled) I have to break some rules to get a variation more than changing model and I think this is one of the rules you can break without destroying the shoot.

Check it out, it will be more posted of this work :)

Best regards and happy new year!

Thank you Tore.  I really appreciate the fact that you know that I am here to help and learn.  The fact that you respond with the attitude that you understand my purpose and are always willing to help me improve says a lot of your character and professionalism.  You are truly a great asset to this website.  Have a Happy New Year my friend.   Brent

I have looked at the images you requested and I understand your purpose in this series.  I am an engineer by trade and so I pay attention to detail and "rules".  My wife is the artist in the family and she says that my engineering side interferes with my creativity.  She says I let the rules stand in my way too much.  It is funny to me that I can put an image up for critique and people do comment on a broken rule.  Some people say break the rules, some say don't.  Kinda confusing.  In my quest to make a truly great image I hope to someday find the right mix.  Thanks Tore for your help.  Brent

Fun, that is my main profession too :)

I do freelance photography with a business plan that if I don't have to pay my studio rent by myself its good enough and I think I will stay at that level to keep the joy of it but I am planing to get a bigger studio. you can read about my background here.

I guess I have the same problem too, but I more locked in my lightning value than composition rules. I think I will do some session with no strobes this winter to challenge myself :)

Best regards Tore

Very well done on this one! As always, beautiful lighting and post-processing. The model is fantastic: expression, make-up, hair, ... I like your "white" concept!

The double catchlights and the "cut" hand don't bother me at all. But I agree the bracelet at the bottom is a little distracting. And I guess that it accentuates the "cut" hand issue for those who perceive it as a problem.

Alain
