I would have been inclined to eliminate the black clouds above the large white cloud, but that would have been a mistake.  The extent of the black clouds really sets the mood for the photo, and it especially provides the context for the white cloud and the other elements in  the photo.  There are white elements here and there (most notably the white compounds that form a leading line to the mountain), but it is the dark clouds that really tell the tale and give the power to the photograph.  I like the relative simplicity at the top and bottom, but a lot of complexity in the middle where the clouds meet the mountain.

Paul, this is an absolutely magnificent picture. It made me look at the rest of your posted pictures--too few by far, I am sure--with equal appreciation. That the rating system here came up with less than a 6 plus , let alone 5  for this picture suggests something aesthetically toxic about it.

Anonymous. Thanks a great deal for your encouragement. I don't know about toxic, but I know my images can be quite intense. I have been a member of PN for 10 years, but never got involved with the "critiques". My artistic eye is puzzeled continually by what is ranked highly and praised.  However, I am secure in who I am as a photographer so I am not bothered by it personally. I see praise for unappealing photographs elsewhere as well (to my eye anyway). This image at 16x20 in a 24x28 inch frame always stops visitors in thier tracks with a wow ! I normally don't worry about anyone liking my images except me. However, I have taken to donating all of my sales to my wife's non-profit, narrowescaperelief.org  . She/we help families and children in developing countries around the world. I want to sell more so I can give more so I am posting images here in the hopes I can figure out better what will sell at shows not on line. Seems like I need to do color landscapes that are super saturated or sexy photos to get high marks. Niether is my thing. I have two shows coming up in the spring. I will show images that please me at one and I may let comments I get here on PN drive the other in the hopes of making a few bucks for the non-profit.
