This image obviously slipped under my radar and did not find its way to eliciting comments via a critique request.

In re-visiting my images from time to time, I enjoy finding one such as this to present to PN for a valued comment..............

Grayham,

Don't know if I'm any good at "Valued Comments" but, here goes, . . .

The details of the Heron are very well discernable from the background. And, I for one do like the "natural" environment as the background.

Appears as though you find yourself in the same predicament as I often do with most of my "Nature" subjects. So, I will reiterate what I am often informed of, . . .

"Would have been nice if your subject would have been separated more from the background to give the background more of an out of focus or blur to better define the outline of the main subject.

That upper branch just above his leg is somewhat distracting, but appears that it would really be a chore to clone out and still look natural. Of course, had there been more separation to the background, . . . that chore would have been much easier to perform. The other two brances that the Heron is not perched upon are distracting also but, being in the foreground, there is not much one could do with those.

All in all, it's a fine image showing wonderful details of the Night Heron!

Grayham, . . . I do hope you know that for the most part I'm just "poking at you!" Why, because I don't know if I've had the privilege to comment on much of your work and, I do most certainly look forward to any comments you find the time to leave on mine. Besides, . . . I suppose you could "Ban" me from your portfolio now! Also, . . . having a bit of Baileys Irish Creme in my afternoon Coffee helps the "worst in me" sneak out!

O.k., so now you have it! . . . a comment!

Cheers!

....... a lengthy diatribe, from you, on one of my images. I'm truly blessed (with or without the added Baileys).

Your points are well received....... difused backgrounds and lack of foreground clutter etcetc...... yet I sometimes wonder if these regurgetated comments always fit the image.

I myself have used these very terms on portrait images of others, because the background detracts from the model or the numerous rings on her fingers draw your eye away from the eyes. Possibly solid, valid advice for the image in question.

For my shot above, not only have I worked damn hard to get to the point of taking the shot (sneaking up on the Heron), but I've also had the opportunity to encompass a meaningful part of it's natural habitat, which I enjoy in wildlife images.

So I guess that what is "good for the Goose is not always good for the Gander" (smiles).

So, no!... you are not "banned" from my images.......... although it could happen if you confess to the Baileys in your early morning coffee.

I've enjoyed your visit

Best Regards
