This is Ongard (Bold) a young male Asian elephant, born 10 September

2010 enjoying the pool in his enclosure at Melbourne zoo. Like his

sister Mali, he was born in captivity as part of Melbourne zoo's

captive breeding programme designed to increase the numbers of the

endangered Asian wild elephants. Where possible, please help in the

conservation of the endangered Asian elephant. Thanks for your thoughts

Another beautiful capture Art. Makes me chuckle!!. Ongard is certainly enjoying his 'bathtime'. You make use of light so intelligently.

Last evening I watched a National Geographic Program on the Elephants In Mali, Africa. It was an amazing show and I learned much. Watching them trying to traverse a 'wicked' sand storm was heartwrenching, and they los a few due to old age, or youngsters trying desperately to keep up to the adults.

Amazing migratory habits these animals have. It made your Photos all the more interesting.

Kindest regards, Gail

Thank you very much everyone for your thoughts. Gail sounds like a great documentary and thank you for the association of my work too it. You're too kind. Ongard was very playful on this day along with sister Mali. Many people don't actually know that elephants love the water and are great swimmers

Interesting capture, lighting, colour as well as lovely story. I have always enjoyed watching elephants and their behavior.

Asian elephants are in in many ways so different than the African elephants. Colour - The Asian elephant looks almost as if they were painted by hand and many of them and then they have freckles as well. Height - African elephants are taller than their Asian brothers and sisters.

Warmest Regards J
