joseph_eiche 1 Posted December 14, 2011 Hi Pierre, I like the photograph but am trying to put my finger on the romantic side of this image to see if I am missing something. Is the romanticism in the worn down, decayed building, weather by nature...is it the lone human subject, isolated and misunderstood. I am just curious as to the romantic side of this because I am having some trouble putting my finger on it. Link to comment
william_staniforth 0 Posted December 14, 2011 This looks like a montage of a portrait against the background , I'm guessing , as the hair looks a bit sharp like a cut out . ( I may be wrong ) . The building itself makes a very intregueing image and the light and colour of the portrait part blends very well . The thing that bothers me , is that portrait appears vertical whereas the background is leaning , if you see what I mean . I still like it and it's a worthy effort , so I hope I haven't upset you ! Pierre Dumas 266 Posted December 14, 2011 Joseph, the ambiance is romantic by my measures! I can imagine romance in that ambiance, that is! Never said that the picture is romantic!William, you are quite right, it happened so while doing the montage not to take care to straighten up the background first! I will rework it to see how would it look with straightened up background!Best regards!PDE Link to comment

joseph_eiche 1 Posted December 14, 2011 Hi Pierre, Did say Just was wondering what aspect for you represented the romantic side of this photograph. For me it is the building, weathered and old behind a a down looking (maybe representing down trodden) lone man. He seems sullen to me.A nice work of art Pierre. Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 266 Posted December 15, 2011 Thank you Janusz, thank you too Uncle Mike! Uncle Mike, don't tell me that you are familiar with that lens, it's only the lens built in a point&shoot, but I think it's good for portraits, better than the Carl Zeiss built in my DSC V-3!Joseph, I understood well your point! I understood that you liked the picture, but couldn't connect none of its contents with romance! And I told you that the ambiance is romantic by my measures, IE I find a romance in the old houses, from the old times which I consider to have been more romantic than the present times, that was all! I didn't take it as a negative critique, just a question requiring an answer and I thought that my answer was good enough! Thank you for reminding me that not everyone sees a house in decay as a romantic item!Best regards!PDE Link to comment
maria 7 Posted December 15, 2011 the building looks very similar to those in the Bucharest historic centre Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted December 15, 2011 An excellent portrait of a true dreamer Pierre! Could that be the balcony used by Romeo? Excellent work Pierre! All the best,Neil Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 266 Posted December 15, 2011 Thank you Maria and Neil!Neil, it might be that balcony, those who went to Verona told me that it was very similar to this one meaning quite inappropriate for the activities described by Shakespeare, ha!Best regardsPDE Link to comment
brano_k 0 Posted December 16, 2011 Pierre, I am having a hard time finding a romantic link here. Closed eyes, yes, for sure, and you can throw in palm trees in the background, low sun casting shadows on the wall, even broken gutters... But my first thought was: you better open your eyes if you are walking around. Apart from that, your depth of ideas never stops to amaze me! Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 266 Posted December 16, 2011 Lost romance!Thank you Brano, I will now upload a picture without palm trees since they didn't help the romantics and this time with well balanced background, the other I uploaded in response to William was with stretched horizontally bcgrnd, this one is with non stretched! Eystein 1 Posted December 17, 2011 No. This is not the "Romeo and Juliet balcony" in Verona, but anyway, it looks like Italy and is definately my kind of place too. Romantic? Yes, the building, not the guy. But it is an original image, and I really like the composition.Best regardsEystein Link to comment

John Peri 1,029 Posted December 18, 2011 I never fail to enjoy visiting your pages. It does not always have to do with any single message, it is the vision and the perplexity of the process that I take pleasure in. Bravo Pierre. Link to comment
