Great Egret (Egretta alba) in Mangrove Swamp

You have a monsterous portfolio here on PN, with some masterful images, yet I'm surprised with this one, as you have a monster 70-300mm lens but chose to shoot at 100mm. The surriounding landscape does little to enhance the subject and whilst I am all in favour of capturing wildlife in their natural habitat, the presentation here depicts a rather diminutive Egret.

I tried to enlarge the subject by cropping away some of the surrounding flora, but the quality of the uploaded image did not allow me any success.

So I'm sorry, my friend...... but I can't quite give you a "thumbs up" here.

One is sometimes torn between "should I say something or should I just move on" and who knows whether it is more kind to say nothing.

I enjoy your work, but this one just doesn't do it for me..... sorry.

thanks very much for your indepth critique.

I see your points but I beg to have a different opinion.

The mangrove environment is one in which usually you can penetrate only with great difficulty. However, here I found myself on an elevated boardwalk enabling not only a good view on the Great Egret but also on its hunting ground/water.

That's why I've included this image.

The detailed shot is the photo following this one in the folder. So, there you are, with the bird shown in full splendour.
