Personally, I like the B&W version over the color original.  The background detail doesn't tell me as much about the girl as the community in which she lives (that's my assumption, judging by her clothing).  But most important is her eyes, and they don't compete with her beautiful skin tones when shown in B&W.  Her eyes are so mature, so non-judgemental, so open and accepting -- it's an expression I would not have anticipated in someone so young.
