What a wonderful scene - the waves and the birds have the maximum impact for me. In my humble opinion, I would crop the sky just above the highest bird on the left for a bigger impact. All the best on a fine image.

Great light on the waves. Good shot where you get the feeling of the stormy weather. Var du ute i stormen på søndag? Ganske heftig da.

Hallo Sidsel

Thank you Sidsel.

Ja, jeg var på Mølen for å sjekke Berit :). Hun var vild og sinna. Står det til med deg? lenge siden sist.

The one thing the sky Does contribute is your sense of the spaciousness of the scene. It's true that the waves will have more impact, if impact is what you're going for, but I would say it's mostly a matter of trade-off, and depends on Your vision (as opposed to our visions).

Another benefit to this crop is that the line of the disconnected trio of wispy clouds is a nice counter to the line  proscribed in the wave set. . and together they "reflect" the light source outside frame-left. I might see about punching up the contrast of the sky Just a bit to make those clouds a little more consistent with the drama in the waves. And, by all means, do keep the light fall-off in the upper right corner, as it also helps point back to the out of frame sun.

All in all, try all possible crops, etc, but tune the image to reflect what You want us to experience more than to what people tell you Should be done. All the rules are Made Up. Use your own eyes to design the feel of your images, and rely on what people see in your images Much More than what people say to do with them.

In the image as you have it here, I see drama and spaciousness (the Big Sky of the ocean), and the softness of your sky keeps the liquidity of the water, even while the water is showing its Power. If I were to ascribe sound to the image, I would find the waves roaring, then, in your sky, the hissing quiet between the waves.

I might also suggest you try making prints of the possible crops and hang them where you pass them every day.. at some point one may emerge as the one that resonates with your vision, Bela.

Hello Wayne.

Thank you very very much for a superb "in depth" comment. I think I will print your comment and hang it on the wall as a reminder.

I have croped it down but used the same aspect ratio. The change makes another storry. Both are great in my view. But it also tells me that you are so right with what we want to see.

Thanks to you and other members I fell I get a better photographer. I feel I have had a nice learning curve since I joined this site. And words and thoughts like you have just adds on. I appreciate it and thank you again.

Kind regards

Bela Dick
