This image was shot at f/1.4 and although in the view finder the water

droplet was sharp in focus it has left the image softer for a painterly

look, which is what i was after. Then I have added some dodge and

burn to accentuate the painterly look. I used a Nikon D90 with a 50mm

1.4 ais lens and a 36mm extension tube.

Martyn,  it seems you have accomplished what you set out to do.  i would have liked to seen a bit more emphasis on the gorgeous red petals and perhaps a bit of yellow center as well.  to me the drop is interesting but does not merit full attention.  interesting work!
