nico_lilien 0 Posted November 26, 2011 After a few minutes I realized that a compliment is also a critique... what a wonderful shot.I like the DOF, her pose and look. Not to mention her eyes, WOW.I find the lighter patch of hair a bit distracting. Did you use an umbrella and flash? Thanks for sharing, Nico Link to comment
lintrathen 14 Posted November 27, 2011 With that beauty.... had to be an Aussie Girl.Great capture.... both image and engagement (smiles).Without lens and exif data it is difficult to know what you did. On face value (pardon the pun), the eye capture is good but I can't make up my mind about the skin tones from left to right......... almost a tad under-exposed yet maybe not........ I should have played around with it in PSE before starting this diatribe. So, if this was my image I probably would have played with -a little darkening overall?a little sharpening for skin definition?a bit of cloning out of the distracting (although difused) flowers?and maybe some attention to the light patch of hair at the top?A gorgeous girl and potential "life" model.Well done to you bothRegards Link to comment
christopher_sutton1 0 Posted December 29, 2012 Thank you for your advice and compliments.I don't normally do portraiture, I'm a hobbyist landscape really, so I need good feed back. Aussie? HAHA! Close, Kiwi girl but we were living in Aussie at the time. In fact I was working in a camera store and one of the girls I worked with wanted to take some engagment photos of us so she did my fiances make up and we went out one afternoon. She was using a reflector rested against her legs underneath the shade of a tree. I just had my little 50mm 1.8 on and quickly took a few shots (stealing my friends hard earned set up :p )I shot it on a wide aperture and did reduce the clarity a bit over her skin. The odd bluish tinge on her hair I didn't know how to get rid of without making it look odd. I think it is a white balance thing with the afternoon sun coming through the branches or something (she's too young to be getting grey hair just yet).I suppose those flower petals are a bit distracting. Good to know. It's hard editing on a Mac screen too because everything is so ultra-realistic it's hard to know if your doing too much sharpening or too much softening or contrast ect. Link to comment
