It looks like a HDR photo because of the range of tonalities. It is very nicely lit, and you have achieved a very interesting sense of movement in every aspect of the composition: the sculptures, the people and the contrast between the ceiling and wooden floor. The girl in the middle tops all off to make this a very good image. Well done!

Your comments reflect what I was going for, so thank you for that. It's actually not an HDR picture in the sense that it wasn't run through a program like Photomatix, but I did use some software that definitely gives it that effect.

Hi Tim, A most excellent image. I thought that this was an HDR too until I read the comments. Why did I think that...the colors are that good.

The female subject center frame is a great compositional element as far as I am concerned and I would leave her right where she is. Was she there randomly or did she pose for you? Either way it was a great idea or excellent timing.

At first I thought that the statue on the right 1/3rd was blurry but after taking a good look it is just the nature of the statue to look that way and it draws my attention (in a good way) and results in my eye traveling away from the strong center subject.

About the only thing here I notice is that the ceiling runs to the left corner but not to the right corner. I mention it but this is very minor and was more a result of me studying this excellent photo and not something that drew away my attention from what you have done here.

The reflection in the ceiling, the reflections on the floor even the green trees in the background aren't blown out.

Excellent photograph Tim.

Hi Tim, This is what I was talking about but again don't pay too much attention, this is an excellent photograph just the way it is.

Joseph, I think your crop is too tight at the bottom.  K.C.

Cropping 10%, placing her slightly to the right of the frame makes for a more dynamic presentation imo.  Centering the subject doesn't not work here as it would in other photo's.  Because of the asymmetry in the background it balances and makes for an interesting image, but again, my preference would be a slight off-centered version.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. So with cropping, I think we have a few interesting choices. The original is the only one that keeps the "bigness" and "aloness", while being right in the middle of everything, which I think works well in this picture. Joe's crop is more symmetrical with the ceiling & moves the subject to the right, but I think I value the bigness more. I also think it adds to the movement look.

Katie, did you suggest to move her more to the right than even in Joe's crop? If so, I'll post something, but it started looking weird to me.

This was not a posed shot. She just happened to be standing there. I think that the ideal situation would have been to shoot from the exact middle, which would have kept the openess and by perspective moved the subject to the right. (She's not actually standing in the exact middle, she's just lined up that way due to where I'm shooting from).

Joe, when you view the photo in large, I think that the statue on the right comes out more clearly.

Thanks again everyone. Your comments helped me notice things that I didn't even see initially.

I hear where Katie's coming from, and usually 100% agree with that idea, but I think that centering the subject convey's the sense of being alone in a crowd of people that sounds like Tim motivation here. Stated another way she is in the center of everything, surrounded by people but yet still alone.

I also agree with what Tim is saying, his crop works better towards an overall feeling of bigness and utlimately being alone in a large room.

Tim, I did notice that everything was sharply in focus, even more so when I viewed the photo large.

Again, a great image.

I just noticed something that I obviously didn't plan. If you view this in large, you can see the pamphlet she's reading. The cover has the yellow statue that is in the background on it. Pretty neat, I think.

A real jump-out-and-grab-you image. Especially liked the touch with the pamphlet image matching the one in the background. Excellent!

I like this capture so much and read  discussion about the better framing. IMO with regard to a handheld momental nature of this shot ( i think this might be a handheld ) and rather huge burden of dynamic range with respect to b/g illuminating window, this shot is a very well managed shot, with only minor flaw at composition related to ceiling and central position of the subject. My suggestion here is 20% crop from upper aspect and 10% from left Which would improve the overall compo. Although this capture is nice and perfect already. Bravo.

Hamid.

Yes, Hamid, it was a handheld shot. It wasn't a planned shot, as this is a public museum. I saw the people situated in an interesting way and knew I had to get take the picture before things changed. And they did change, quickly, so I'm pretty happy with how that aspect of this shot turned out, considering. I actually should do more tripod work. The only picture I have online that was taken using a tripod is "Cave River".
