I tried to lower redius to nothing while increased amount to near

max.

Nice photo. I think this could easily be improved by cropping thr right hand side (to the single reed) - I think it would balance the photo out slightly.

Disagree with cropping suggestion. Not sure about foreground grass...maybe without it and with some impressive clouds the capture would be more striking...not sure...Nevertheless, the composition is fine as it appears.

Not sure what your subject is. This isn't a texture shot, this is mostly just horizontal and vertical lines (which are not dynamic), so not much action or perspective to catch the interest. The 'atmosphere' is nice though, with the soft blue distant hills. The warmer foreground and cooler background gives a real 3d effect.

Very static pic, but for this mood it is ok! Absolute calm water could add many to this shot!

A very shot Audrey that conveys a wonderfully tranquil mood. I agree with Richard's observation about the slight crop on the right. It might also be worth your while to tweak the color balance just a bit to warm up the image a little, but its very nice as it is. Nice work.

When using USM, I always set the Amount first -- 100 percent seems to work best for me on most images.

 

Next, I gradually increase the pixel radius from zero until I see that the edge sharpening effect is beginning to also product noise. This varies from image to image, but it's usually between 0.5 and 3 pixels.

 

Finally, starting at zero, I slowly increase the Threshold until I see the noise being smoothed -- this is usually a very small amount. If you apply too much Threshold, you effectively cancel out the edge sharpening effect of USM.

 

One thing to keep in mind about USM is that the effects are far more pronounced on the monitor than in an actual print. To get the feel of what's going to happen with your printer/ink/paper combination, you actually have to run a few tests.
