Hi TmJ,

Great action shot using the 700mm effective focal length lens at F/5.6.

Now , was the IS function off with this hand held shot at 1/1000 second ? If so, then you are invited to join my club.

The most advanced member of my club (me) has taken images with a 700mm lens at 1/200 second (No IS , tripod, or other support). It is all in the breathing and relaxation process when the release button is pushed. I also keep both eyes open to point the lens, as looking into the viewfinder causes the mind/ body to want to keep up with any motion due to the lens movement on the subject. It just takes practice with the lens. For hand holding lens without any blur, one of my best was done using the Nikkor 400mm F/5.6 (old manual lens), hand held at 1/60 second.

Best Regards,  Mike

What a great story and series of shots. Outstanding work recomposing the 3 shots in quick succession.

Very well done Tm and thanks for sharing.

Gareth.

Thank you folks!

Mike, I can only be a partial member of your club then since I always leave the IS on 1. I don't think it makes any different if I turn IS off but may be it does. I have shot down to 1/100 before with this combination and IS on for perching bird but I generally don't want to shoot below 1/500 since I go after bird in flight mostly.

Yet another stunning image to augment your amazing portfolio. Masterful.

Unlike you, I will never be able to join Mike's elete club as I always shoot with my in-camera IS facility switched on (unless on tripod). (smiles).

Beautiful capture........... well done.

Regards
