Outstanding! I love the dark, dramatic atmosphere. The details in the trunk, roots and rocks are wonderful to look at. The sky is amazing. Very well done. Best wishes,

Linda

Very evocative mood and composition... I'd be tempted to clone out the contrail as it is not in keeping with the swirly nature of the comp.

Thanks  Linda, and Dave.

Dave i think i will take your advise when i print this photo out. I didn't notice it myself until i already posted it. But thanks for the constructive feedback.

I think this is very nicely composed.  You might experiment with some selective dodging to get a bit more variation in the tones of the terrestrial elements, which would add to the interest and make them a bit more distinctive (e.g., possibly the tree root, possibly the water, possibly the slope on the right, etc.).  I agree re: the contrail, and it looks like it would be easily addressed.

Hello, I find this photo very appealing and at the same time I agree with Stephen Penland: with some little dodging even more can be probably achieved (the potential is huge IMHO).

I do not see the contrail as a problem, just the opposite - it nicely finishes the swirl of the clouds (something like a pole of a flag) - and I also like the fact that it hints on the presence of humanity in this wild and seemingly uninhabited part of the world (and it brings in a sort of nice "contradiction or connection?" notion or a little bit of tention, depends on how you look at it, but in any case there is then more that just a sanitized / disinfected landscape) - if the trail comes from a plane, of course, on the small picture here it is not so clear. And if it is a "natural" work of clouds, also fine, it is interesting.

If you wipe it out you will get a "nice picture" - exactly as nice as hundreds of thousands of other nice pictures of "wild landscapes" that already exist. In a way, the trail makes this picture a bit special.

Best regards

Mj

I am back again: I do not say my screen is any reference, but I did my best recently to profile / calibrate it with Colormunki and on my screen this picture is slightly darker that I see as optimal.

Just for your consideration.

Regards, Mj.

This is very good.

I have visited this Oregon crater under less ideal conditions but in the end you have done a admiral job of capturing it. The contrail should be addressed. While this is good I would have taken a half douzen shots while adjusting my position or the zoom.

Another image might have seen  me moving even closer to that tree trunk and another one moving back to include the top of the trunk. OMG, there are so many possibilities with this scene. Well seen and I offer you my congratulations.

PS I rated it 6.
