From a recent open mic night. She and her friends performed at the end of

the night and were amazing.

Light was on-camera flash bounced off the coffee shop's white ceiling.

Great guitar choice; but the gorgeous woods of a Taylor would be better protected with a Kyser capo.  She did a nice, neat job winding her strings.  Her posture is good; left shoulder nice and relaxed.  Personally I think the guitar should rest on her left leg but that is a personal preference and the correct leg issue is always hotly debated unless the performer was playing classical style (obviously she isn't as she is using a pick) in which case the left leg would be mandatory.  Her hand position is good in that the palm is well away from the neck but there is a bit too much bend at the wrist.  Obviously the most glaring mistake in this photograph is that the microphone is about a foot too high.  Also, the microphone chord should be wrapped around the mic stand.  Poor girl, she must be a struggling musician as I notice her pants are old and torn.  The excessive wear at the knees indicates she does manual labor like scrubbing floors when not playing guitar.

Mike and A.K. - Thank you very much for the comments.

Gary - I appreciate the time you spent on your comments on her playing technique, I hope you also liked the photograph. The guitar is not hers, she borrowed the one from the person running the open mic night since she and her friends did not expect to perform. Yes, the mic placement is odd but this is a fairly informal event. I believe the ripped jeans are a fashion statement.

Hi Mark.  I was truly just playing around when I did my silly critique.  (I'd probably been up too late).  She is a lovely young lady and the photo is very nice as well; it seems to fit the setting perfectly.  Besides, I'm a sucker for black and white. Cheers.
