I was wandering around the house tonight looking for something to

image when my autistic son Adam asked me to 'picture his toy

monkey' How could I refuse.

I decided I didn't want shadows which meant I couldn't use flash and

had to keep the room light off. The only light was coming through the

open door from the landing. I set my D60 to ISO400 and 35mm wide

open, resting the camera on a cupboard for a 3 second exposure this

is the best I came up with. Adam loves his picture.

Please c/c for the technical aspect as the comp was just for fun.

Thanks for looking

Hi Gareth,

You did well on two accounts, you made Adam a happy boy and you got a nice image .

The DETAILS show an F/1, which probably should read, if you used the Nikkor 35mm F/1.8 G lens.

I like the use of the cup to steady your camera for the 3 second exposure.

I have used that technique many times at the local bars, when I wanted to take exposures in very low light settings. An upside down beer glass provides a nice base, too.

Do not be concerned about trying higher ISO settings. At ISO 1600, a 3/4 second would do the job, too.

It would give you some experience working with higher ISO images. Since your scene is well exposed , ISO 1600 would not appear too noisy.

For fun, I would try the same shot using the Nikon D7000, too.

Best Regards,  Mike

Hi Mike I just happened to have the D60 in my hand at the time and Adam wouldn't wait for me to change to the 7000. This iso is about the limit of the D60, it is not great in near darkness. I printed a copy for Adam and he took it to school!

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Gareth.
