I stayed at one location for over an hour photographing milkweed as the light changed. It still fascinates the 'hell' out of me to see how light , camera angle and height from the ground can make such a difference. I sometimes carry a large plastic garbage bag which i spread on the ground when i want to get down low which was i did with this image. You never quite now what is lurking in 8 in high grass/bush when you lie on it.

This is fascinating Tony . . . . the back lighting was very well used here. Such a nice effect, lighting also part of the edges of the twig with bright orange light. It was worth going on that plastic bag. Wonderful  shot...well done!!

John - thanks for your visit and kind words. I just returned from viewing your street shots and they are delightful.

Richard - good to hear from you. Now imagine that - I never saw the Halloween aspect but now I do! The light here is the orange sun just a few minutes before it dipped below the horizon. i may have toned down the power of the onboard flash and filled the front just a tad but I am not sure.

Tony...  Superb example of abstract realism.  It actually looks like the plant is growing this glowing orb.  A garbage sack, uh... I'll have to remember that... Mike

Michael, Richard and Sandeep - many thanks for your visit and kind words.

Sandeep: I just might put it up for ratings - a game akin to roulette and the way the dice rolls. It might even be like Forest Gump's box of chocolates - you never quite know what you are going to get.

All the very best to everyone!

Tony,

This one really catches the viewers attention.  I think it is very symbolic, with the seed pod surrounded by the light of the sun promising future rebirth.

this is fantastic.  The light gives it so much juice.  Also, the contrast between the backlit seeds and the dry, cold=looking pods is striking.  Cheers, Micheal

I like your idea and your intensive work on that photograph. Light and post processing are very impressive. Congratulations, Tony! It is far away from most other pictures here. Regards, Olaf

Strange coincidence - i was just at your needles image, was about to make another comment, got distracted and did not complete it. Iappreciate your generous rating. All the best

PS I d not use Aperture software and know very little about it. I use mostly Nik capture NX.

In a word.....stunning!  The milkweed seems on fire, made even more powerful because of the contrast to the gray colder tones of the leaves.  It's very artistic, and I wish like crazy I could better understand how in the world you achieved this effect with the light being predominantly on the pod.

Cristal - many thanks for your generosity. The technique is quite simple. It was late afternoon and the sun only had minutes before i would dip below the horizon. I simply positioned myself with a zoom lens so that the setting sun was directly behind the pod. What zoom and where to position myself was a bit of a trial and error.

Tony,

Never mind the large plastic garbage bag... it's the shot that counts and you' ve got it right and of course it's always well worth it, that's all about passion and photography.  Well done and keep enjoy it!  Very best wishes. Bachir
