Being back at the clinic for Louises penultimate chemo treatment, I wandered over to the nearby lake to see if anything was about, other than ducks, ducks, ducks. There wasn't.

A young man approached me and we talked about photography for a while and he showed me some of his images on his iPad.... I gave him my card and wrote PN's address on it and returned to the clinic. About 20 minutes later, my mobile (cell phone) cheeped and it was a message from Don, to say he had spotted a Night Heron. I did not wait around....

The Night Heron is the only nocturnal heron in Australia. Prolific in the Eastern States, but a little rare here in the West. They hide away in dense foliage during the day and feed on fish and young chicks at night.

I had about 20 minutes of filming before it disappeared into dense bush to hide.......... excitement is hardly the word.

He was about 40 metres away on the otherside of a waterway. My camera/lens was handheld (using trees for stability).

A great afternoon.

Hi Grayham

What great fun it must have been to snap away at something new. I don't believe I have ever seen this particular Heron before, so well done and how nice of "Don" to tell you of it's presence.

Anyway, you have done the bird proud this a a great set of shots, obviously the light was changing constantly as he hunted in the shady recesses of the lake.  Look forward to seeing more.

Kind regards

Louise

Grayham...  An excellent capture both with the distance and handling the lighting.  Best of luck with your treatments... Mike

Thanks so much for taking time to view this image. He was in very "shadowed" bushland under well-foliaged trees and overcast sky to boot.

Thankyou for your thoughts on my partners treatment.

Best regards
