pnital 36 Posted October 14, 2011 It is an unusual story by Franz Kafka. It is a series I did with the prerformer I photographed in previous conceptual approach. To understand the story, please enter the link attached. Thanks for your thoughts.http://summarycentral.tripod.com/themetamorphosis.htm Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 14, 2011 Of your two most recent, I prefer this one. He appears to be stirring in his bed of crumpled paper and I have the peculiar feeling that any moment his eyes will pop open. In a way this picture produces an uncomfortable feeling as if we were looking in on a private moment we have no business watching. Perhaps that's the choreographer's intention This seems more like a performance piece than a true dance. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted October 14, 2011 Seems like a mix of The Golem with the Metamorphosis because of the word "Emet" on his crown-- ironic even without that connection. I LOVE the swirling newspapers on either side of him. I once read a novel by Yehoshua, and there was a section in it about an undersink so filthy the narrator states that even cockroaches would die of the filth. I guess he swaddled in newspapers represents the underside of life. In all this , look theatrical Chag Sa'ma'ach, Pnina Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 15, 2011 Jack , it is a performer and not a dancer, he connected two well known stories. The one is Franz Kafka story and the second is the "Lummox of Prague.Donna, yes you have well observed the word ; TRUTH- EMETH. that belongs to the second legend of the "Maharal"...He even just returned from Prague working on this stories there. He works with different artists . For me, again, it is a new experience.Pierre, thanks as well for your interest. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 15, 2011 To me, the most effective part of the photo is his makeshift hat, which seems to be trying to impose some structure on chaos. I read the Metamorphosis in high school and remember it as being incredibly disturbing. After years of working with severely mentally ill, I understand the terror of being pulled under and drowning in one's own mind. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 20, 2011 Thanks for your very thoughtful comment. It is a disturbing creation and this realization of the performer is well expressing the spirite of the story. Link to comment
