It was a great experience just standing in this spot for over an hour,

watching the moon drop toward the horizon and the sky ever so gradually

begin to lighten. I put the moon behind a Saguaro cactus to get a

silhouette. Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Very beautiful and evocative photo, Stephen. Good composition, beautiful colour of the night sky, and the placement of the moon is spot on. It reminds of E.T. somehow. The finger of the cactus lights up as it reaches upwards. Great work :-)

lovely capture. I love the way the moon's disc is fully covered, but just.

wonderful shades of blue!

How did you manage to move the moon behind the saguaro?  Wouldn't it have been easier to take a step or two to the side?  I do love dawn in the desert. In many ways it reminds me of dawn at sea -- just a different set of sounds. I'm guessing those are two of the outer planets above the moon. Thanks for posting.

An excellent night shot Stephen! Beautiful deep blues in the sky, and excellent silhouettes of the cactus.

All the best,
Neil

Hi Stephen,

A very pleasant image taken with your medium format camera.

Good job with the scan, too.

While your details do not show the lens used, I most likely have them in my collection of Pentax 645 lens made.

Best Regards,  Mike

I really like the silhouettes, they are like fingers pointing to the moonlit sky, there is also a nicely gradation in the depth of colour, with the promise of dawn not too far away. Beautifully done!

Best Regards

Alf

This is the one that does it for me. Very simple composition, very well executed, I love the moon but those two stars are winners, and not a bit of moss in sight.

The strong shapes make this composition work very well.  The night mood hasn't been lost either.  Very realistic and artistic Stephen.
