Hi TmJ,

The very nice results are no surprise , as the Canon 500mm F4 L lens is an excellent long telephoto lens.

Like all fine lens, it is best shot at F/4, not F/7.1.

Mike, F4 will not get the tail in focus. In fact, F7.1 did not get the tail in focus either ...... So, that's a moot point as well in this case ! :-)  I think some shot beg for F4 and other beg for what you want to show, capture. I do agree with you that there seems to be a glow when I open wide. However, I always feel that F4 give me images that are sooo narrow in DOF and that's not what I want in some cases.
