To me, this detail shot at Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia has an abstract

appearance. I would appreciate your comments, which are

always more meaningful than ratings. Thanks in advance for your

time. Larry

Hi Larry,

This is a stunning photo in terms of color and texture. The yellow seaweed seems to have a movement of its own washing up against the rocks! The blue rock contrasts perfectly with the yellow seaweed.

One thing you might want to try out is cropping a bit tighter top and left. This may have two interesting effects.  First, the uneven edge of the seaweed at the top would be cropped off, so that the seaweed would spill off the frame. Secondly, it would change the amount of space given to the seaweed, rock and the brown stuff so that these amounts would be more evenly balanced. I'm not sure whether "more evenly balanced" would be better or worse but it's worth trying out.

Thanks for sharing!

Mike

I considered the photo, liked what I saw, and was prepared to offer a suggestion, and then found that Mike had already said exactly what I was going to say.  I think a crop to get rid of the orphaned "brown" in the lower left corner and the orphaned black areas at the top would put the viewer's focus more strongly on the main elements of the photo.  By losing those hints of context, it might even make the photo more abstract.  It's a wonderful composition of colors and contrasting textures.

Mike and Stephen,

Thanks for your helpful comments.  I am going to do the crops as you suggest.   Your comments are define what the PN site is about - helping to improve our vision and images.  Thanks to you both.   Happy Fall.

Best regards.  Larry
