Grand Sierra

harrylichtman

I tried to capture the grandness that is Dusy Basin in the Eastern Sierra with this pano. Rain followed by hail (2 days in a row) created some great lighting opportunites. Somehow sun managed to illuminate these peaks despite heavy clouds in the west that I though would surely fizzle photo attempts. 2 horizontal shots stitched, 2 exposures manually blended to retain the dynamic range.

The golden color and the reflection are fantastic. The composition is great as well, it is a very beautiful panoramic photo.

Beautiful image by all means, superb exposure value and remarkable DOF, very fine details and so vivid and original colors, the reflections of the mountains and the sky into the water is given this image all of the great credit and well enhancing your high quality composition.

Thank you for sharing it and wishing you all of the best.

I think you've captured the grandeur of the area superbly with this pano Harry! Stunning light on the peaks, and superb detail throughout! Gorgeous scene!

All the best,
Neil

The composition rocks, and I love your processing of it.  Many would have been tempted to over-saturate this.   You've kept it realistic looking; yet there is a warmth and glow to both the mountains and reflection.  Bravo!

Harry, you've outdone yourself! Man, this one really sings! Very grandiose with significant chiaroscuro light and tack sharp detail. I really like how you have the complete ridgeline reflection, yet there are foreground boulders filling in the empty spaces. About the only thing I can come up with is that I would be interested in seeing a crop of the right side to take out the boulder, perhaps cropping to the right most peak's alpenglow, or just short of that. No doubt, any cropping is not necessary for this to be a 7. A very big WOW for this one!!!

Harry,

My wife and I love your pictures.  The light, the sharp foreground, the clouds, and reflection and composition are all in the right place.  We are learning and will continue to learn from you.  Thanks for your encouragement.  Best regards,

Thanks for all of your comments and observations.

Mark - I can see how a crop would improve that side of the image, since I cropped off Agassiz on the left pretty good already!  Reflections weren't hard to find, boulder placement was the most challenging.  Keeping enough for added interest without disrupting the flow of the reflection.  I have some other comps where the light is more intense, but boulder placement not as good.  I should have stayed in one place!
