The subject is under most circumstances, very mundane but here, with the printing and the focus and desaturated tones...this is masterful.

Look like one of Emil Schildt's ruined negatives, but here you don't have a negative: good Ps work.
Look very static, but it manages to convey strong feelings of loneliness, abandon and despair.

I've often felt an ambivalence toward this kind of gardening -- where a tree is continually cut back until it is practically a stump in order that the growth of the branches can be controlled in an aesthetically pleasing way. No ambivalence about this photo, however. Like all your work, it is masterful.
