Rob,

If this is your start at glamour portraits you are doing pretty well.  The pose is in keeping with the theme, and your model's expression seems to sell the image.  The exposure seems fine and the background is not distracting.  I really like her cascading blond hair. And the come hither look makes this clearly fit in the glamour/pinup category (Too mad they don't have that category in P.N.)

There are always some considerations about improving things so allow me to "nip pick" a little bit about your original image.  Perhaps cropping out the leg on the right would be of help because it does not seem to be helping the composition, which really is about her facial response.  I would suggest a vertical line that eliminates her locked elbow and drops down below the bust to define the right side of a now vertical format image.  You can play with cropping lines to get something reasonable.

Your model seems to have some severe tan mark problems, on her bust and especially on the arm, which just suddenly changes from light to dark.  The possible solutions are to get the  model to go to a tanning place to even it out or for you to learn to modify such skin problems with software. While you are learning how to even tans think about eliminating the highlights that make her skin look greasy (they are on her forehead and cheek)

Because P.N always puts pictures on a white background the white bed sheets on the bottom tend to blend into that background.  Perhaps adding a matt or frame would be a way to separate them.  You might think about this in any similar future photo projects and use a colored sheet.  Considering the colors of your background I think tan would work well.

Your light source has left very tiny white highlights in her eyes.  They are so tiny as to give her a little bit of the snake-eye look.  It is easy to retouch such highlights to make them slightly bigger - and perhaps more fuzzy.  One good way to do that is to make two identical layers in Photoshop or whatever you use.  Do your changes on the top layer, go have a cup of coffee to clear your mind, and then blend the two layers until the effect is just what you want.

I look forward to seeing your future works,

Jerry Matchett

P.S. Heck, I got so interested I went ahead and did the things I was talking about. After all a picture is worth a thousand words.  I did them really fast so there are probably some imperfections in the image.

Here, I cropped it to a 4x5 format so it would fit in an 8x10 frame, if printed.

It took me about 10 minutes.

Hi Rob,

A very nice image capture.

Technically, I would start with a longer focal length lens, like 50mm to 85mm. The optical characteristics are preferred for the various type of lighting that you will become involved with.

Being a bit further away from the model allows for changes in perspective without introducing lens aberrations, too. It also allows a more " at ease" feeling from the model.

You had a good lesson from Jerry concerning processing, too.

I will say that I like both presentations. For me, a person with tan lines is attractive and in looks natural as is. However, if glamour is what you are really after, there are models that do properly prepare their bodies for photo sessions that give that "perfect look" .

This is the aspect of photography that is more personal than technical, and I do not debate whether an image is good or not.

Best Regards,  Mike
