I think the "4 for 5" shows a better progression.  Unless you'd said they were balloons in the original, I'm not sure I would've recognized them as such.  But I love the colour in both of them.

So now that I have my so-called "critique" out of the way...tell me how you did this, please.

I like them both, Scott.  I think they would display well as a diptych (sp?).  I'm guessing that you varied the distance from the balloons to the microphone, to get photos of varying degrees of penetration of the projectile through the balloons?  Nice work.

Thanks everyone.

Erik, there's a delay circuit built into the trigger, so I just turned the potentiometer to vary the distance through the balloons.  It probably would have been easier if I just moved it the distance I needed to go, like you said.  I took a lot of test shots until I had the pellet in the part of the frame that I wanted, but when I hooked up the balloons it wasn't as far because the water was slowing it down.  So I ended up having to do several shots and adjustments to the potentiometer with the balloons hanging to get the pellet inside of the last balloon when the flash went off.  My intention for this whole shoot was to get one of my dogs holding their toy with a balloon on each end while I shot through them.  I actually took a perfect shot of Amber holding it, but apparently my flash shut off right before I shot it.  Then my photogate trigger immediately quit working so I had to hook up the sound trigger and do a bunch of testing.  Then Amber was too skittish from the first loud noise in her ear to hold the balloons without a dreadful look on her face, or without turning to look at me with the gun.  Winston just wouldn't hold them consistently enough that I felt safe shooting without worrying he was going to drop his head or move and no photo in the world would be worth risking shooting my dog, so I just scratched the whole thing.  Here's a test shot of what I was talking about, using a birdbath stand as a dog.  I was using larger balloons and the final pic would have had colored balloons.
