The scan from the negative came out all whacky so I played w/brightness a little in PS to get it to look like the print

That's great. I think I'd try a little crop down from the top. Also, I can see a bit of a black border on the top and left sides that you might want to crop out. The ripple in the water really makes this photo as well as the colors and textures at the bottom of the fountain/water.

Just started really looking at other shots in photo.net...lots more

people go for the water reflections than I thought. Is this any good?

love the reflection - looks like pointilism(?) - its been a while since high school art class. only suggestion i have is to perhaps crop out the brick lining(?) at the bottom, but if possible to keep the red flower intact and also cropping out some of the top, and just a hair off the right side by the rock. by not seeing the fish and the border, it will take the viewer longer to realize that this is a reflection.

This must have been how Monet got his inspiration for the impressionistic works he painted. Well composed, and delightful colors!

Very nice shot. My one suggestion would be a bit of cropping... at least off the right to get rid of the bit of something that can't be identified. Also, I would probably crop in from the top, as I find what's in the upper left corner a bit distracting. I notice you seem to keep native aspect ratio on your photos. As you've probably noticed from my portfolio, I tend to crop with abandon not worrying about aspect ratio... I guess that might be personal taste.

Yeah, I usually try to crop as little as possible (no offense to anyone who does though) as I normally try my hardest to get the exact composition I want in the viewfinder. Sometimes (especially w/the drebel), I'll end up with more in the frame than I had in my viewfinder, or will notice a telephone pole that snuck in or whatever, & will have to though. This shot was a film shot from a million years ago & I think I just wasn't paying very close attention to the edges (not that I always do no of course :-)) I'd like to re-shoot it someday & see if it could be improved.

Very nice. I'm a fan of the reflection shot as well. This is one I hope you have framed, matted and hanging in your home or office. I know I would... Congrats and Regards --RL
