This photograph breaks some rules--I know that. I am interested in

the content, what a viewer reads into the photograph. For example

does the placement in the frame make any comment on Bear's age?

I am also interested in your preception of balance. This was shot on

a very warm but not opressively hot day--still long hours at a

photoshoot are wearing on old folks like Bear and myself.

Because you mention age and subject position it makes me think that Bear is looking out of the photo because he has less days ahead of him than more. The photo feels unbalanced to me. As an underwater photographer I operate under the premise "Give the subject room to swim". On the surface I think of this sometimes as give the subject room to see. The subject looking left and not right (and with the sign behind him) makes this picture feel unbalanced. The space and alternate point of interest are behind him instead of in front of him which doesn't feel right.
