Reflection Lake and Mount Rainier is one of the most photographed and

iconic landscapes in the world, which is the reason I have never shot

it despite passing by a hundred times or more. On this morning,

however, I just couldn't resist. The fact there were a dozen other

photographers there didn't diminish the fact it was strikingly beautiful.

Nope, just some very gentle mid-tone and highlight dodging there.  Now that you mention it...seems to be overdone slightly.  Thanks.

The framing and composition is near perfection.  I like the dodging and contrast.  This may be one of the best of Rainer I have ever seen.

Spectacular as usual Marc, but I am in love with this one particularly.  Just outstanding having the pastels in the background, providing even more contrast with the bold colors in the foreground.  Sweetness.

Greetings from Canada Marc, yes this is a location we have all seen many times before, but I knew this was one of your photos without even looking at the name! 1 question, is there always this many wildflowers in this condition on the second week of Sept.? I would of thought the blossums would have deteriorated or fallen off by now.

Hey Doug, thanks.  No.  This was taken just three days ago and I can tell you that saying this year is an anomaly is an understatement.  I have never before seen things even close to as late as they are this year.  Wildflowers have not even reached peak yet at Rainier as a write this!  In fact, fall colors are starting to show up now as small plants are still melting out of the winter's snow, which was not only one of the heaviest on record, but took longer to melt than any year in history according to some reports.  Wildflower season (spring in the mountains) is a full 6-8 weeks late a Rainier this year and 4-5 weeks late throughout the Cascades and Sierra.   There were still ample patches of snow around Reflection Lake here at only 4800ft in elevation.

knowing how dark the foreground is at this spot at this time of the day compared to the mountain makes looking at this image a small bit uncomfortable, but overall looks great anyway

Hi Marc Adamus, Im Rebecca and I am taking a black and white photography class in college and i am learning to improve my criticing skills. My assignment was to critic any photo that attracts are eye and show towhat comes to are mind when viewing the photo. When i was scrolling i seen Beauty, which striked me as soon as i seen it. The coloring of the sky and the flowers stands out beautifully and i love how the colors from the sky accent the water making it look like one big sky. When viewing this piece it gives me a sense of peace and tranquillity. I admire the color scheme that was used in this piece and also the focus of the piece which I would see as the top of the mountain. I also like how the whole focus isn't on the mountain and the sun set, for i feel that the flowers and the colors from them jump out and show there beauty.

this pict is soooo beautiful.

When I see painting like this picture I am sure I would say "kitschy".

So, what is it now? A fotoartwork or ....

Of course I like it ;-)

Not only are flowers late this year, but more luxuriant than I've seen in 35 years of backpacking...

Marc, ignoring for a moment the obvious beauty of the scene and your usual awesome processing: The flowers look like they have a fill-in flash. They appear way too bright for early sunrise to my eye. That's my only gripe; otherwise I love it.

Very impressive!  Great foreground with the subjest in the mist.  Nice refection...  Great work.  Best regards,

I love this picture so much. The way my eye moves constantly around the picture shows the directional flow of how the picture is portrayed. The sense of symetry also used in this piece is very good as well, such as, how the mountain reflects off the lake makes a very nice mirror look making the picture look very proportionate. The colors work very well together and complement eachother, making the piece flow nicely. I also like the depth of the mountain in the back and how it doesnt become faded by looking at the beautiful sharp flowers in the foreground.

Hi Marc,

For me the saturation is a little strong but having said that it stopped me in my tracks as I was browsing, the colors of the sky does completement the flowers and the perfectly still water with the reflections, and mist it's an image I would aspire to capture. lovely. 7 all the way..
