AlanKlein 2,904 Posted September 12, 2011 I couldn't believe they were racing so late in the season! C&C appreciated. Thanks. Alan. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 18, 2011 A great activity shot. I like the B&W presentation. Classic! What grabs me here though is the back light. Gives the shot a 3D aspect to it and makes the light sails pop. In a perfect world the boat on the right would have had more space to the right of it. Not like you couldn't give up some of the excess space on the left. A plus is the little bird in the foreground supervising the start of this race. Great result for braving the cold temps. Best, LM. AlanKlein 2,904 Posted October 2, 2011 Len: Thanks for you comments. I agree there was a lot of negative space but I wanted to keep the boat shadow on the ice to highlight the ice and not cut the shadow. I guess it didn't work as well as I hoped. The boat on the right is a problem with the space. Here's a cropped image that combines both points. Which version do you think is better? Tks Alan Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted October 23, 2011 Now that you've got my feet to the fire I have to admit I prefer the first one in spite of the tension created by the lead boat being so close to the edge of the frame. Your second, cropped version, is missing the excitement of the significant lead of the frontrunner portrayed in your original and that excitement factor, for me, trumps the cleaner, arguably more stable but blander cropped composition. In lieu of a perfect world where we would have had a tad more room on the right, this one will have to do. Best, LM. Link to comment
AlanKlein 2,904 Posted October 26, 2011 Len: Yes the cropped one is a little boring, pretty static. I agree with you too that the original would have been better if there was a little bit more breathing room for the boat on the right. Thanks for your input. Alan Link to comment
