I'm not sure if I was a bit heavy handed with the darkening, I wanted to

portray the heavy sky and brooding storm. Your thoughts and

comments are always appreciated. Thank You.

Alf, I really like the expanse of the field in relation to the amount of sky. The perspective of the rows down the middle leading to the light in the clouds works well, particularly with the bales lined up on either side. It certainly reinforces a sense of infinite depth which I like.

Alf, nice image, very dramatic mood.  I have seen many hay bales (or rolls) photos, but i dont recall one with this type of symmetrical composition.  This composition really accentuate the dramatic effect by drawing the eyes of the viewer directly to the dark sky.  As a result the subject of this image shifts from being the hay rolls to being the sky itself and your main subject.  Quite interesting and unique approach. Inspiring work as usual. Regards - michel

Alf - just perfect IMHO.  The lines, circles and richness of color are very appealing. Would I have lightened the 'tree line" - not really sure! Keeping it the way it is, encourages one to focus and   appreciate the bales of hay and the passage in the middle that leads to dramatic skies.

All the best,

PS Everytime I visit I begin to dream about a D700 or a fictitious D800.

..... the posters before me have left little else to be said. It is a beautiful capture and, No, I don't think you have "over-darkened" it.

The colours, lighting, DoF and presentation are all outstanding.

A proud keeper........... well done.

Beautiful image, I like the DOF and the details been obtained while the colors and the clouded sky are adding a great interest to the composition and so well connecting this amazing capture with the viewers.

Thank you for sharing it and wishing you all of the best my friend.

This is a beautiful image just the way it is displayed, it is certainly not over dark.  I can add little else that is more enlightening than that which has already been expressed by others.  Keep on, keeping on, you have truly grasped with a firm hand on to this craft.

A really powerful picture with a wow factor. All elements of the shot work well to produce a very balanced shot. Once again great work from you. Best wishes William

I too like the mood of this image brought about by the darkening atmosphere of the imminent storm. The arrangement of the hay rolls and the lines on the ground bring me nicely into the image. A great landscape! Regards, Alf. - Lester

Alf, I think you've succeeded admirably in your intentions.  I really like the deep, rich gold/yellow of the foreground and how the light falls off on either side.  The light is nicely balanced throughout.  I've never seen rolled bales like this lined up, and your shot "down the middle" makes for a great composition.  Very nicely done.

I do not think there is much I could add Alf, except I admire your editing skills, they never cease to amaze me.  The storm as it appears here is one I would truly walk away from....yet the richness and depth of color and detail make me want to stop and view this dramatic scene more.

Well done dear Alf, Beautiful!

Respectfully yours, Gail

Great view point. I like the way the farmer has considerately lined up the hay bale for you and I like the way that it is not quite uniform with the greater number to one side. Lovely detail with the stalks in great perspective and superb colours.

gosh alf, i can barely eek one comment on a photograph and you've got a catalog already :-), but let me throw in my two cents. i think there is a bit too much foreground and the one point perspective view is well established, so perhaps a different crop, such as the one suggest can work, maybe better. the darkening of the sky does not bother me at all, actually that is exactly what it looked like above the "emirates" (stadium that is...).

take care bud.
