This was the only one out of many dozens in the past month I could find that is distinguished by some sense of restraint and subtlety. An unusual subject, and an original and effective interpretation that comes across as deeply felt.

It is a terrible shame that photos like this are invariably rated lower than the multitudes of overprocessed, oversaturated, oversharpened, cliched images that have become the norm for modern landscape photography. It is one of the reasons many of us have moved on to other styles.

Hi Mac,

it pleases me mightily that you appreciate the beauty of this image.

When I entered the viewpoint I was overwhelmed by the 'strangeness' of the scenery which was enhanced by low sunlight just after sunrise, very clean & thus clean air enhancing a perfect long-distance view.

Shooting this image was just a case of being at the right place at the right time - & 'seeing' it.

Bad ratings never bother me as it shows that an emotion, albeit a somewhat negative one, has been generated by looking at the image.

On the other hand, tastes differ widely & that must be accepted. As long as the photographer likes what he has created, his world & mind are in good shape.

This is a great B&W.  I really like the strong, black horizontal lines separated by the much lighter lines of water, snow, and sky.  It's also good that one of these bands has some complexity to it in terms of structure and tones.  Very nice composition overall.  I wonder about cropping just above the orphaned sliver of land at the bottom; IMO that would produce a cleaner and therefore stronger composition.  Very nicely done.

Sam. I really like this one, the banding across the image gives it a wonderful layering affect. The peaks on the mountains are really fascinating, they also offer the image some reetition.

A really superb B & W shot that reflects that simple good lighting and composition should be rated higher. It is an almost surreal shot has real beauty in the classic tradition of great landscapes. Well done William
