I caught this black widow on my back porch a couple of days ago and

put it in an aquarium with a ghost mantis. The spider ran to the side

of the glass and just froze, so it was easy picking for the mantis.

It did take it about half an hour to finally go to it and seize it. I

looked away for literally 2 seconds and it went from this position to

the position in the pic below, so did I not only not get the shot, but

I didn't even see it happen and I was standing right in front of them

watching the whole time, except for those 2 seconds.:)

Great shots!   I think I'm going to turn a couple dozen of these mantis loose around my house to keep the Black Widows away.  Now, I've never seen a BW anywhere around the house, but since seeing this series I imagine hoards of them ;-).... Mike

Ok Scott, I am literally sick to my stomach. Dang, and I just went back into remission two weeks ago...

You should put a warning on your member page that your portfolio contains images of black widows and should not be viewed by the queasy or those who have been ill! LOL!  Amazing photography but ewwwww... double ewwww...
