Some have elevators; that's my kind of silo.  Personally, I think the main attractions of silos are their size and regular geometry, and that's what I try to depict.  I think the elements in front of this set are distracting, and I'd hope you could find a different point from which to photograph.

Silos are my life right now.  I'm hauling grain to them from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., six days each week.  They become even more "beautiful" as they become full, because that means the end of sitting in a truck in an open field of wheat stubble in 95-degree weather is closer.

Montana has both kinds of silos.  One sits way above ground, and the other is marked by barbed wire fence.

Thanks, guys.  I got away with using a cheap lens on this one (stopped down, of coure)--which might be a sign of things to come.

The high contrast that I used in processing this one grates on me every time I look at it now.  The opportunities are there, however, and I hope to get back over to shoot a few more.

i think it's helpful to have a standard way of doing things, and to depart from it only when necessary.  That's what film photographers did, i believe.  digital somehow encourages arbitrary experimentation and treating each image as a separate entity.  best, j

Thanks, Jamie.  The version that is up now has had the trees dodged a bit to bring out some detail.  I hope it is the same file, since persons have already rated it based on what it was, not what it is. . . .
