Excellent.  You have to "click larger" to see the sharpness, at least at my end.  I don't think I've ever seen the tongue before, and that of course _makes_ this image.  Well done Charles!

Thank you Donn.  Larger definitely shows the focus on the eye on my end too.  Would that the sharpness came out to the wing, though I could use higher ISO to get the f stop right.  When I've been lucky enough to catch them with the tongue out - the tongues have been close to black, so I was surprised by this translucent thread, which does make the shot!

Steve, yes, pretty funny that I would stand in one bush for being a little bored with the slim pickings at El Dorado proper.  It has become harder to go where I want at Bolsa Chica with my dog along, should get down there for Black Skimmers soon!

Re; Skimmers at BC.. don't waste your time they're pretty much not there and seldom skimming when they do, you're getting better stuff lurking in the E D bushes.
