Amazingly clear and a beautiful example of frozen motion. As I am shooting birds more and more these days, I am very keen to learn from an expert, so I would like to ask you how far, roughly, were you from the bird. Presumably this was a hand held shot and the speed 2000s was the key. Warm regards, Dimitris.

Fairly close as far as shooting Bifs go, maybe a 30% crop.  Can't remember if was handheld or not.  Use a tripod much more these days, as it has many advantages.

Thanks Monte and I agree with with you that the tripod has definite advantages, at the same time it makes tracking a bird more difficult, I suppose a tripod with a gimbal head might be good.
