amalsircar 2 Posted August 9, 2011 Pnina, your new series on Conceptual is interesting and laudable. This image is well -composed ,with very good control of light & exposure. As for concept, I am reminded of a quote from Martin Luther King,Jr. " Faith is taking the first step when you don't see the whole staircase." For me ,Faith is Light. Link to comment

tonyfrench 0 Posted August 11, 2011 Pnina, I really like this series so far and am interested how it will progress. I like the journey that this character is taking, whether it continues to be his or an exploration of a different sort. I am particularly intrigued by the use of light and shadow in all three, but they are especially moving in this. I like how the prayer shawl cuts through this image and commands much attention almost as a separate entity from the figure, while the reflection of the candle seems to pull the two together—perhaps reluctantly? I will be interested to see if and/or how my thinking of individual images changes as I see more of the series. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 11, 2011 Pierre, it has a holy spirite in it. I think that it is a part of tradition and a strong part of human searching for answers.Amal, what a nice quote of Martin Luther King jr. Thanks very much for adding it to this frame!Rycho, I'm glad it felt warm to you ,as all our human life is a long search and straggle for answers , light, and existence problems.I'm glad you were in Poland, hugs to you and especially to my white witch!;-))Mari, I think that this one can touch every individual , as I see it as universal faith of people , in other religions as well.Tony ,thanks for your nicely written impression. I think, as I wrote in the previous comments, that it is a phylosophical methaphor in the bond between human and the unniverse(If you want, with God) around him and searching for explanation of/in his life. Thanks all of you. it is not an easy concept and I appreciate all of you for taking part in it. jeffl7 0 Posted August 13, 2011 I love the mood this conveys. The faith, though brightly depicted, is a quiet matter. It doesn't eliminate the shadows, but it gives a counterpoint. I like this capture. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted August 13, 2011 He is praying in a position strikingly similar to the man with rope around his neck, both leaning blindly into their shadows. The two are connected just as death and faith, the yahrzeit candle reminding us of this. The unused tallit is striking Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted August 15, 2011 I just read this poem by Sutzkever and thought of your pic (context -- his mother's death in Vilna Ghetto)"Ever since my pious mother ate earth on Yom KippurI, alive, must eat black earth on Yom Kippur,I am myself a yahrzeit candle kindled from her fire" Link to comment
