Very nice duo! I like a lot the concentration and  interest in what they do, not paying attention to grandpa Len and his camera;-)) The child on the BG is your grandchild as I already saw him in other photos of yours ,and his face is visible. The one on the FG (probably) is yours as well? Very good moment of activity in B/W!

Yes, on both counts!  My two grandsons. (brothers)  And you are right, if they see the camera all you capture is silly unnatural grins. (I have a grandparent's quota of those already)   Luckily their focus (forgive pun) was on the minnows.  (never did catch any but it's the quest, not the actual capture that counts)  Hard to reveal any great amount of their faces & still have them engaged in this activity.  Thanks for your always welcome visits.  Best, LM.

Len, Thanks for posting this wonderful b x w image.  Another generation of kids doing what we did as kids.  This reminds me of my childhood when my I would help myself to Mom's sauce pans and strainers and go to the stream to catch minnows, little crabs, frogs and poly wogs.  If we got too hot, sweaty or itchy from mosquito bites, we tuned that all out as we squatted at the stream with our feet usually in the water watching in awe this enless supply of water creatures and taking some home.

Good to hear that this one triggered some fond memories for you.  Your description rings true for me too.  This one was originally in colour but I thought the B&W version was superior.  I like the range of gray & black tones, especially on the water.  A couple of dollars at the Dollar Store for those dip nets & these two were good for the afternoon.  Thanks for your visit.  Best, LM.

Great moment captured, Len! Your grandsons are now too young to appreciate your effort...but when they grow up these kind of candid  shots will provide a treasure trove of memories :-)

Sincere regards.

Hopefully you are right!  The way the stock markets are going these days photos may be my only legacy. :-(  Thanks for your thoughts.  Best, LM.

Hi Len

As usual Len, I always admire the tone you can achieve in your B&W photo. The histogram of your captures are in its normal distribution from highlight to shadow, and as I think this will produce an outstanding print. I also appreciate the spontaneity in this capture. Best regards

Yes, this one lent itself well to B&W conversion.  I may well print this one.  Thanks for your insight.  I was pretending to photograph another subject, the only way I was going to obtain this spontaneity. Best, LM.

Good to hear from you again.  Hope things are well with you.  This is the Barrie Canoe Club floating dock on the south shore of Kempenfelt Bay.  Give me a heads up next time you are coming to Barrie & I'll take you there.  Space age?  Only if you follow Battle Star Galactica or Alien(s). ( or Tron, maybe) :-)  Great idea though. It can be expanded in any direction with the addition of those individual squares.  Ideal setting for photos of boys being boys.  Best, LM.

Len, forget eye contact. This is a great shot of kids being kids. Hopefully, it's one that they will treasure in the future.

Yah, eye contact is valuable in formal portraits and sometimes in candids.  But not here.  To give me eye contact could mean that the prey (minnows) could escape. And we couldn't let that happen could we?  :-)   It'll have to be the future when they care more about the photo than in a fishing expedition.  The stock markets being in a snit at the moment, these photos may well be their only legacy.  :-(  Hope they like photos.   Best, LM.

Hi Len, I'm still trying to work out what happened to the retirement fund. I assume that someone else has it because I don't. Maybe someone will discover my artistic talent and make me fabulously rich but then again...

Len, admirable composition, tones & timings. I agree with you that if they looked at you, the  natural charm of this image would have been compromised. I am not flattering you when I say that next generations will be proud of you and  your photography.

Probably the same weasels that have the lion's share of my funds too.  You might stand a chance with your artistic talents.  Failing that, I noticed in one of your photos by the beach that there are some really high cliffs;  we could jump together.  :-)   Best, LM.

Thanks for the kind assessment.  The kids were kind enough to pose for this candid though they were unaware of it.  Now I know why Allan Funt, of 'Candid Camera' had so much fun photographing people being people while performing everyday activities.  Best, LM.

This is an image that I think most people can associate with, though we were very sophisticated in our fishing techniques, with a garden cane some cotton a matchstick as a float and a worm literally tied on........the Sticklebacks would bite the worm and refuse to let go and we would spend hours catching them.  The two boys look remarkably similar, I wonder if they are twins?.......Great range of B & W tones, excellent sharpness and fine detail, all contrive to make very interesting, faintly nostalgic and aesthetically pleasing image.

Best Regards

Alf

Thanks for your thoughts.  I imagine many would have a nostalgic memory triggered by this one.  I remember performing a similar action when I was a boy.  These guys, my grandsons,  are brothers, one eight, the other five.  Like herding cats when you want them to do something.  :-)  Best, LM.

Thanks for taking the time.  Yes, most of the time big brother is looked up to as a mentor.  However, there are times when the fur flies & you actually think they are going to kill each other.  Normal kids, I guess.  :-)  Best, LM.

This is a defining rite of passage for any small boy who lives outside a desert. I remember doing the same thing almost 60 years ago in a shallow pond in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.

The journey is the destination...  I see respect of the younger boy for the older one.  Love the background, very orderly and all is right with the world...

I'm happy to have helped you on your trip down memory lane.  No extra charge!  :-)  Thanks for taking the time.  Best, LM.

Good of you to weigh in here.  I agree, the journey what's important here.  We all know what the ultimate destination is.  :-(  Respect for the mentor:  a truth, until the mentor has his hands on the younger ones Nintendo.  Then, a fur ball.  :-)  Best, LM.
