As we headed into Sequoia and Kings Canyon, the landscape was arid and parched. Everything looked brown and scorched, a common appearance in the Central Valley in late July. We stayed at the John Muir Lodge and directly next to the lodge was a mountain road that hoisted us into another world of wet and verdant meadows filled with wildflower bounties. The lupine and corn lilies were especially plentiful, along with acres of pristine fern gardens. I could have spent hours in this location alone, but I was traveling with family and our itinerary was full. By the time I returned to the car, my shoes were soaked through to the socks. For most, this has nothing to offer photographically, but for me, it's all about recollection and reminiscing. Please consider the Larger preview at least!!

Mark there are quite a few elements i like in this image.

1. the fact theat the bulk of the image is a variance of greens with subtle variances.

2. the colour contrast of the flowers.

3. The structure of the layering through the image.

In my view a very strong composition, very well executed and processed.

Best regards

Richard

Mark,

I think there's more to this than you give yourself credit for. The lighting is excellent and gives the plants some very good separation from the background and the depth of field is also spot on. It's amazing to see the amount of fine detail that can actually be captured and as usual your processing is also to a very high standard.

Regards, Dave.

Mark...  I'm with David on this.  The lighting is to die for and the detail from the foreground Lupine to the layered trees beyond is superb.  A clear case of taking the ordinary and presenting it in all of it's glory.  Excellent... Mike

Absolutely awesome image, Mark!  Superb composition--the layering really makes it pop!  Your sharpening routine really makes this a sweet piece of eye-candy too.  I love it!  Reminds me of that afternoon when we slogged around trying to find corn lilies up in Yosemite NP near Olmsted Point (and you and Ray found the bear!).  This is top-drawer work, Mark!  Cheers!  Chris

I am so glad I found this image again. I meant to comment earlier. This is a stunner, and your whole portfolio sings as well. You have a unique vision and I very much enjoy seeing your work. Best, Nancy

Amazing Greens, superb clarity and great depth.

re "For most, this has nothing to offer photographically" - I find that sad and discouraging. Hope you are wrong.  (6)
