Thanks for sharing/comments! - With so many attempt with handheld

shot that got only half the dragonfly sharp I resorted to the tripod +

gimbal head (my birdshooting gears) and got this one with the Canon

5D Mark II + 1.4X II + 36mm extension tube + 500mm F4 + 580 EX II @

1/16 power as master + 430 EX II at 1/2 power as slave. - So much for a

dragonfly shot! :-)

Hi Tm,

You extended efforts for this setup pays off. Using long telephotos as "macro like" lens is an especially good approach to dragonflies photography.

I am a hand held user, and I rely upon my position to the subject that allows me excellent definition from my quality shorter lens set near wide open than using a stopped down aperture for DOF.

In this case, the magnification was ample enough to develop nice details , even at F/20. If this dragonfly were perpendicular to your line of sight, at F/8 the image would have been much better.
